Its open and it is a MADHOUSE! People parking at Walmart across the street going across Hillcrest. No way will I go there anytime soon. Let the higher prices drive many away.

I tried to get in yesterday, but there was not a space to be had, and so many people had made their own parking spaces that it was downright dangerous driving around. I'll wait a little bit.

Though their prices are higher, they have great 2 for 1 specials, and I will go there for the great bakery and Boar's Head deli meats. I am interested in the Dollar General Markets that seem to be coming here, as well... perhaps an alternative to the depressing Wal Mart Neighborhood Markets.

People in Mobile are that desperate for a Publix?

Yeah I don't get it either. The one in Spanish Fort is okay, but nothing exceptional.

You must not have tried grocery shopping in Mobile lately. With the possible exception of the Super Target, it is generally a thoroughly depressing experience. The Publix deli and bakery are wonderful (Boar's Head products!), their produce is excellent, and they simply carry things no one else does. Yes, we have been that desperate!!! I used to take a cooler with me to shop at the one in Spanish Fort when I had to go to the Eastern Shore Center.

In Florida I have 8 Publix's in a 10 mile radius. By far the best place to shop. People in Mobile will complain they are too expensive though and take it back to the wal-mart. Mobile has a terrible economy.

Fresh Market and the Winn Dixie in midtown are good shopping options.
