I see you have a Ross Dress for Less, but no Trader Joes, Whole Foods or Costco that I could find on the net. How about TJ Maxx and Marshalls? Have more than one each?
How about resale and thrift stores? More than one Goodwill and Salvation Army? Any other really great ones?
(And, no, I cannot visit just yet. Someday in the near future...cannot wait.)

Trader Joe's and Costco is absent from the whole area, not just Mobile. In fact, I had never even heard of Trader Joes before these forums. There is TJ Maxx and Marshall's in Mobile, how not sure about more than one each. Marshall's is on Airport Blvd near I-65. There is a new Kohl's in west Mobile in Shillinger Road. Bel Air mall is also full of clothing stores. Mobile doe's have Sam's Club, I'm assuming it's like Costco?

Believe it or not, I have personally never been to a Costco either--BUT I hear those who have rave about it. Better than Sams by far from what I gather, but the same premise as it is a warehouse style. Guess we are both out of luck.
Atlanta probably has all these things, so if you ever get the hankering for a 4-1/2 hour drive....check it all out.

I'll have to check out the Costco website. The most popular grocery stores in Mobile (except Wal-Mart) are Bruno's and Winn-Dixie. There is also a Fresh Market on Airport Blvd.

Default Stores

Tuesday Morning is a great place to find upscale items at up to 80% off. There are several all over the area. My favorite is here on Dauphin Street. Also one just over the bay in Daphne. I find stuff from Europe that is way cheaper here at Tuesday Morning than in Europe.

We've got Target(2 in Mobile) and also World Market, at the Eastern Shore Center. I think World Market is owned by Costco because that name in on lots of stuff they sell. Eastern Shore Center is only 10 minutes away from me here in Midtown.

Also Goody's, too, although I don't like it that much.

Shoe Station is a discount spot for pretty good prices on shoes in general.

Junior League shop on Sage Avenue (Midtown)has some great items, if you are small size. I got a BCBG MaxAzria long suede/sweater for $8 this winter. They have a little boutique section and stuff is in pretty good shape.

Steinmart is awesome too. Discount upscale items arranged nicely . Nicer than Loehman's in Atlanta in some ways. There is one just west past I-65 and also one just over the Bayway in Daphne.

I don't know how in the world I forgot about Goody's (two of those too). It's located right next to Sam's Club, Old Navy, Best Buy, and Barnes & Noble.

There will be a Costco in Mobile built near Hank Arron stadium/Fox 10 area and a Target and other stores will be built out there also.

Default A few other great stores...

I also forgot about more of my favorites.

Hudsons- Mississippi-based salvage type store on Hillcrest by Airport. For instance, I remember a free-for-all over Thomas the Tank Engine toys that were 40% off and also when the Brooks Brothers in New Orleans stuff (from Hurricane Katrina) came in. Dirt Cheapis also owned by Hudson's.

Old Time Pottery- Govt. St. just west of I-65-This is a store that can take me 1.5 hours to go through because you never know what they will have. It is a deal! Some stuff is tacky but some stuff (mostly home decor) is great- like very nice fake greenery plants for $14 that would sell for double or more elsewhere. They apparently get stuff from several mail order catalogs like Touchstone, etc.

Hobby Lobbyis on Schillinger (of course, I never drive out there) and now just over the Bayway by the Steinmart in Daphne. I was so happy when that happened! I suspect that this is the same company as Old Time Pottery but maybe Old Time is their outlet. Great deals on home decor. Also Christmas stuff is awesome.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that! Can't wait until the Costco comes. Kohl's was a huge disappointment. I wasn't impressed with it at all except that it's neatly arranged.

Also Big Lots on Airport Blvd just west of University. They have good deals but that's not one of my favorite places. I just don't find great stuff there like I do in places like Tuesday Morning.

From what I hear, you guys will just love Costco.
I seldom find things at Kohl's, but recently did get a nice Chaps outfit there on clearance. And I have bought some KitchenAid kitchen tools there, which is about the best brand we nonprofessionals can purchase--and at a good discount at Kohls, too, so I stocked up when I had that 30% coupon.
Wonder how shopping is in Mississippi near Biloxi and Gulfport or Destin and Pensacola, Florida. Us true junkers would drive over there once in awhile for a little thrift shopping...haha!
