I'm sure most of the Publix fanatics have swarmed the one on Hillcrest already.

I stopped into the one on Airport/University on my way home early this afternoon and found a parking space immediately. I agree that the novelty has slightly worn off, as the Hillcrest store has been open a while now.

This store is grandiose and reminds me somewhat of the old Delchamps flagship store at McGregor Square.

I have to admit that in Mobile proper I don't know where they would build their flagship store.

Therefore I am taking from your post that this is it. With Hillcrest being such a nice area I thought that was going to be the flagship but was so disappointed by its size and general appearance.

Am I reading you correctly.

Thanks,
raj

I kind of knew from the start the Hillcrest location would be a standard suburban location, very similar to the store in Spanish Fort. The Airport/University location, at one of the busiest intersections in the region, would have to be substantially different experience. This store is about 10,000 square feet larger than the Hillcrest store and has a larger emphasis on prepared meals, bakery and deli options.

Thanks, I look forward to a drop by.

Belle Foods has now filed bankruptcy. Pretty soon it'll just be Wal-Mart and Publix.
