We'll be moving to a new house in Loxley in either Aug. or Sept. Does anyone have any suggestions of companies that are writing wind coverage other than the beach pool for that area. Companies are changing where and what they'll write all the time. This would be a good outlet to inform each other of updated information and suggestions.

I know Farmers insures in that area. We have Farmers and Alfa in N. AL. I have Farmers. Maybe someone will come along with another suggestion. Sorry, I don't recall how old you are but you could check out AARP, they deal with Hartford I have seen them advertising on TV that you don't have to be 50 to join.

You should have no problem getting HOI in Loxely.

Thanks, we checked with Farmers already, at the present time they are only writing the fire portion etc. of the policy, and they are using the Beach Pool for wind coverage which is considerably more expensive then if they were underwriting the policy. There are from what I've heard a few companies writing wind coverage, just have to call around. I'd hate to have to be in the Beach Pool for a house in Loxley. Luckily we have a few months before our house will be ready, hopefully we don't have a bad hurricane season.

Default Homeowners Insurance

My husband and I are moving to Daphne in a few months. We actually have a contract on a house and were not told until after we signed that finding homeowner's would be a huge ordeal (even though we specifically asked the pros/cons of each side of the bay when trying to decide where to buy). I have been quoted $1600/year including wind by Max Specialties, but I don't know what kind of company they are. Farmers was astronomical because of the Wind-- $4500/year. State Farm isn't even writing new policies, apparently. Have you found anyone as of yet?

We haven't found one yet. Our house is new construction, so it's hard to get an exact quote without an actual street address or firm closing date. It should be ready late July or August. From what I have heard you can purchase your policy 30 days in advance to take effect on your closing date, this way your locked in in case a hurricane pops up and they stop writing till it passes. 4500 a year, how close to the water are you. For our house in Loxley Farmers quoted us between 1800-2100. I checked with another company in Fairhope(forgot name) they were independent writting for various companies and they had something including wind for 1500-1600. I think my plan will be to go with the highest deductable I can to keep the cost down most of the newer houses are built to handle the winds anyway. I'll post any more info. I get, you and anyone else please do the same we're all going to need a little money left to eat on after we pay these crooks.

I hope the bill for insurance relief was passed in Montgomery yesterday. Senators from Mobile and Baldwin have been trying to convince senators from north Alabama to back us on these rediculous insurance rates. One senator from around the Birmingham area said "he will not support the Gulf Coast beacuse it`s full of rich people with big houses ,and huge condos." crazy huh yeah I know so hopefuly we can get relief down here but having the backing from North Alabama senators have been a challenge !! i have heard that living north of I-10 will make a difference as well.

They should at least work something out for us non-rich, big house living people living in surrounding costal areas. I can understand lack of support or sympathy for the rich snobs living in oversized mansions on the water, but the majority of people are just good ol average people living in moderately sized homes that just happen to be in the southern part of the state.

One thing I am learning is to take the time and get lots of quotes. Even if it's the same carrier the prices are all different. Have them all send you an itemized quote via e-mail. Then you can compare everything in the policy and see what they're charging you for each item, and what kind of discounts they give you. They are just like realtors and car salesman trying to maximize their commission, so you have to have your game face on and do your homework. They charge you enough for this stuff, so take your time and save a few bucks.

My ALFA agent told me that I can get almost any coverage I want as long as I stay on good terms. However a home I got finished on renovating off D.I.P. she pulled up the info on and told me they couldnt write the hurricane policy but could get it through someone else. The house was appraised after it was redone for $112,000, and for wind, hurricane, flood, and regular homeowners and at 15% deductible, it would run about $840 to $900 a month. OUCH!
