The old Antwerp Builing downtown is the first skyscraper in the southeast. So Mobile has a history of having the tallest, lol.

The old Antwerp BuilDing...that doesn't do it justice. You should say, the old rundown needs a makeover because it looks like hell Antwerp Building, unless of course it has been made over and I didn't notice that during my 2 visits over the last 3 years.

Sadly Cafe Royal is the only thing that is left in the builing. It use to have a few law offices, I could see the old Antwerp being converted into a loft.

I really hope someone fixes it up and makes it condos or even offices. Also, I went to Cafe Royal once and it just wasn't good and was way too expensive. I was very dissapointed.

What was the name of the building that had the huge globe on the first floor? I remember as a child I always wanted to go into that building and see it turn.

Here is a neat website with a lot of pics that should bring back memories.. Well they did for me

Number 48 in your above link - The old Creole Fire House in Mobile has been restored and looks a better than the picture provided on the site.

This building is one of the last in the city, except for some of the Creole Cottages downtown and midtown that shows Mobile`s rich Creole past.
