This article and info about grape horticulture in Iowa got me to wondering -- Are there any vineyards or wineries in Montana?? the climate isn't entirely different, and seems to me the soil might be accomodating; lack of sun in the less-dry areas might be the real limiter.

There are a few... I would guess that MT's growing season is too short to support most grape-growing operations.

I haven't seen this locally, but I'm going to consider it my homework assignment this weekend to find a bottle (oh, the sacrifices we must make): Fruit Wine - Pinot Noir Wine - Flathead Lake Winery

The only wineries I'm aware of grow their grapes in the Flathead Lake neighborhood. Mission Mountain Winery and Flathead Lake are the only two I've tried. I really like some of the Mission Mountain offerings. They're available in our local stores.
