I am planning to head through Montana by motorcycle (next spring or summer), and I am staying off the main highways (mostly the interstates). What are some nice scenic routes, and nice towns to stop in? I plan on taking tons of pictures, so I need scenic more than I need decent roads and cheap accommodation. Also, I'm not going through eastern Montana (It's not set in stone though) so just Western Montana please.

Be super careful, I've seen a few large street touring bikes go down on the seemingly always, either graveled, dirt and sometimes muddy stretches of road construction that goes on just about all over the state in the not freezing months.
Tires for your touring street bike that have tread good for off pavement traction as well as paved road efficiency and traction when pavement is wet would be advised.
Those combo tires especially for touring bikes can be a bit higher in price and can be hard to find in some places but worth the $.
I used to ride dual-sport type bikes and even with street legal knobbies, the construction stretches as well as the so called on the maps but not in reality paved roads can be a bit dodgy.

Funny you should mention that, because I was planning the trip on a dual sport bike. I have quite a bit of experience riding on rough roads (and plenty of falls). So I figure if I am extra careful I should be ok.

This link to the Montana Tourism site should help. While you are there, you can ask for a free highway map and travel planner - both are excellent and Free!

Montana's Scenic Drives Link

Have fun and please remember to spend lots of your hard-earned Canadian Dollars in Montana.

Thanks, we appreciate it.

I know I shouldn't plant links to other sites, but adventure riders (something or another .com) has a section for MT- and it's really good! Ask there!

Now I gotta ask: Kamloops BC area isn't that different scenically from western MT. So I'm scratchin' my head about what different scenery you're looking for?? Or is it really about taking the trip and just doing a lot of nothing much along the way?

Don't say that - they'll cancel their trip and we were already planning this summer's County Budget to include their spending.

Sad, but true.
