My husband and I are moving to the area and are worried about the cell phone service there. We currently have AT&T... does it work? Or should we look into getting an account with a different/local provider?

Thanks!

AT&T has no service in the area until Jan 1 when they take over the old Alltel towers in the area. I'd recommend switching to Verizon as they are the other main carrier. AT&T pretended ND/SD/MT/WYO doesn't exist until Verizon started making press about the lack of coverage.

AT&T only has the towers due to an anti-trust ruling when Verizon bought Alltel.

Thanks for the info. We will keep our AT&T for now and *hope* that the Alltell transition will boost the reception. I do cherish the simple things in life, but have to admit that I'm slightly addicted to the iPhone

Default data

I wouldn't expect much use from your iPhone for a while. The call service is pretty spotty if you are outside of a town like Sidney, Williston, or Watford City. Data service will be non-existant.
