Monana Griz....really? I never would have even thought to take it out of 4WD going DOWN the grade. Too me this seems strange, however I do believe you and ElkHunter so thank you very much for the needed tips.
This will be easy to remember.

Also.......you might want to put about 200 pounds of extra weight in that JIMMY (over the rear axel area) to help with traction for those rear wheels.....

Love this idea

For added weight I used to get a truck inner tube that was shot.

Cut it in half. Tie the end shut with wire and then fill that half full of sand. Tie the other end. Repeat for other half.

Gives you added weight that will shape nicely to go over the wheel well. Also, should you get onto some ice and can't move, you can always unwrap the wire and grab a couple handfuls of sand.

Wow great ideas here. One thing I am sure glad I have is studded snows. The streets in Helena are forgotten about while at least the major highways are well taken care of. BUT do be AWARE of black ice any time day or night !! That's my worst fear !! Other wise the driving isn't that bad, really. Just don't be an idiot like some and over drive for the conditions.

Speaking of the car second-guessing you, anyone got one of those newfangled jobs that turn themselves off if you sit idling for more than a few seconds?

Supposed to "work well in Europe, even in Scandinavia". In my observation that very endorsement is sufficient clue to run away screaming!!
