What I’m curious about is what it is like to live in Montana as a young adult. What is the culture like? What kind of opportunities are there?
For a long time I’ve wanted to move to Montana. I like the state and way of life and I think that it would be a good fit for me. However, as a young adult I like socializing and am looking for job opportunities and I don’t really know what those are like there. My tentative plan is to finish my bachelor’s degree in Michigan and then move to Montana. That means that I would be moving there at the age of 22. This past May was my first time actually visiting the state. I was there a week and loved it. I traveled through Billings, Bozeman, Butte, Anaconda, Hamilton, Missoula, Helena and Lewistown. My impression of Bozeman was that it might be a good location for me to start out. However, I was only there for one night.
Get an apartment, a part time job and go to college…meet people and get used to the way of life… Those are my thoughts. Any insights or suggestions? Thanks

Thanks Right now i am studying Business Management but I am not set on that idea...still not certain of what I want to do. I am not really ready to settle down yet either. I feel like now is a good time in life to change states if i want to. I like nature and the outdoors and I grew up in the country. But I got tired of having nothing to do in a small town and being 30 min from anywhere. So now I live in a bigger town. I'd like to live in a town in Montana with some stuff going on and some night life for at least while i'm still younger.

Bozeman or Missoula. Both are college towns, both have some degree of economic activity higher than other areas, outdoor opportunities abound, folks always looking for roomates..

Pick your poison from the two.. I'd research both towns, maybe visit each and see which you like!

Something to remember is you may have to pay out of state tuition.

Bozeman has a pretty good business school. I knew lots of people who got degrees in business when I went there.

I lived in Montana for 24 years, split between Great Falls (17 years) and Bozeman (7 years).

Hated Great Falls, no life.

Loved Bozeman, great little university town. If you are looking for something with at least a trace of a pulse, your best bets are probably the two main university towns (Missoula and Bozeman), and possibly Billings.

Bozeman is my favorite place I've lived. Not too large, cool attitude, beautiful scenery. If you are into concerts, most of them come through Missoula, Bozeman, or Billings, so you would be about in the middle, as well.

Plus, Bozeman is close to Bridger Bowl ski resort.

The down side to Bozeman is that the housing costs are inflated for what should be appropriate for Montana.

Bridger Bowl.
Well, must we be reminded that the costs are dictated by the free market ?
Who is to say what should be appropriate. You do not want rent control in Montana.
