Hey everyone,

As a native Montanan now living in a large, congested metropolitan area where I am looked at oddly whenever I try to explain the home state, I am curious: Which large metro area in the US is most similar to Montana, in your opinion?

And by similar, I don't just mean scenery, proximity to nature, etc. I'm thinking more of attitude, culture, and personality of the residents. I'd also be interested to hear which areas have the biggest influence on MT, conversely (and there aren't that many to choose from).

Let's define "Large Metro" as over 500,000 just for the sake of argument (sorry, Boise and Spokane). I guess we can include Canada as well (Calgary anyone? )

My vote is going to Seattle, followed by Denver or possibly Minneapolis. Thoughts?

I don't see hpw any metro could be compared to MT culturally. I see them as diametrical opposites.

Salt Lake City.
Montana folks go to church, very similar to SLC.
Most folks in Montana are white, very similar to SLC.
Republican...need I continue?

Agreed. If I was going to choose one, SLC would be it.

Maybe Omaha, Nebraska, as well.
