Historyfan thank you very much. Your posts are always so informative and I appreciate the tips. Three Forks' claim to fame is probably it's land and beauty. The town seems a bit lacking but that is to be expected in such a small town.

I have checked with realtors regarding rentals and they are running on empty as well. I concur that Montana is one big small town and that word of mouth is the way to go. I will keep checking the other resources you mentioned as well as new ones pop up from time to time.

Jasper I think that is probably true but Bozeman is a bit special. I've been through many small towns in Montana and some of the bigger ones as well and none of them have the appeal Bozeman does. And so the influx of newcomers. I don't think one can compare Helena, Great Falls or even Billings to Bozeman. Missoula? Not sure that would be a fair comparison either. Bozeman has only 40,000 people and yet possesses many of the attributes found in a much larger town or city. That seems to be a great part of the appeal. Montana is a great state and if you feel that my comments above could be applied to many other towns in Montana well that's something special in and of itself! Few states would be able to make that claim.

And what you said about Bozeman, can apply to many towns in Montana. Bozeman is not "special".
Boy do I ever agree with this statement. I like Bozeman, but I like Helena too.

I look out of my house and see lake Helena and the city lights at night. Behind me to north is forest. To the east- the Belt ranges. The south- Elkhorn range. The west- the continental divide. In between we have Canyon Ferry Lake, Hauser Lake and Holter Lake.

We just got back from Holter lake after a weekend of camping, fishing and playing. We've hiked several paths this summer including Trout Creek and Hanging Valley (awesome, awesome hike). We're darned near equidistant to Glacier and Yellowstone. There is a small ski hill that's not too pretentious and if the kids want to go elsewhere- make a day trip to Big Sky, Discovery- wherever. We have a natural foods store in town, another one coming, and all kinds of shops in between. The walking wall, some breweries, and a few nice eateries too boot and a lot of good home cooking.

Bozeman is nice, for sure, but so is Helena. Or Kalispell. Or Missoula. Or 'insert Montana town name here'.

To my mind the subdivisions are not Three Forks; they're their own thing, related only by general location on the map.

Agreed. They are also within the Three Forks school district.
