I've seen the aurora in Alaska but never in Montana. Has anyone ever seen the northern lights in Montana?

Thank you Elk Hunter. In that thread Mt7 said they can be "heard". I did not hear them in Alaska. Is there any reason they are more prevalent in eastern MT or is it that there is less cloud cover and can be more easily seen?

I don't know if they can actually be seen better, because I've never been to Alaska at night. haha But I have driven the highways in Eastern Montana, from Havre over to Sidney, down to Miles City, to Custer and then down to Hardin and anything in that square, I can see the Northern Lights. When you get in close to Billings, the street lights and business signs all prohibit much sky watching. I have see the whole Northern Sky lit up and it's just beautful. Almost erie. Mt-7 lived up on the Highline in a nice quiet setting with no obstructions of sight or sound.

The Daily Interlake (Kalispell area newspaper), has had pictures a couple times this year of the northern lights. Made me miss Alaska.

You can up in Glacier, but I have not seen them this far down. Not from Bozeman, or Canyon Ferry.

The Northern Lights don't happen as often as they do further north, but they happen pretty regularly. When I was growing up on the Bozeman Pass I saw them all the time, and have seen them a lot out on the prairies of Eastern and Central Montana. You just have to be away from the skyglow of town.

Don't know if it means anything, but the ones I have seen have all been green, blue or kind of a yellowish green. Never seen the Red lights in Montana, but that is just me.

I've only seen the green lights as well. Not sure what causes the different colors.
