Great Falls - westernmost Rust Belt city?

I've lived all over the countries in dozens of rentals over decades and Great Falls is the first place I encountered feuding hillbilly neighbors.
I really don't think the problem is me.

But I also don't paint the whole town by what I encountered from this particular group.

There's a reason my friends and I all called it Mediocre Falls while living there and still call it Mediocre Falls while all of us have moved out of state. It isn't a bad place, but it has absolutely no vibe and definitely a down on it's luck type of feeling for anyone who is young.

I'm born and raised in GF, and I will agree that the people can have a little bit of an edge. My wife, who is from Illinois, said that people who aren't from here can have a hard time with the teasing and sarcasm. In my own case, it's usually in good fun.

The one thing my wife WILL say about GF, though, is that the people are probably overall nicer than anywhere else she has lived. But you have to get past that edge.

It's like anything else: if you like your job, like your house, and have some friends, it's a good place to live. I am fortunate enough to live on the Missouri River, so from July through October I have a boat dock in my backyard and can ski, fish, cruise or whatever. There are not many places in eastern MT where you can have that sort of life right in the middle of town.

Also, as far as GF being "down on its luck," it is actually seeing some job growth from oilpatch related industries. Good luck!
