Hello folks. I have been to the area's between Glasgow and Malta a good bit during the late Fall and Winter months over the past few years. I am from a very rural area in Utah. I am seriously looking into re locating to somewhere along the Highline area of North Eastern Montana. I am a Law Enforcement proffesional with several years experience. I noticed a listing for a Police position in Poplar. I have not been in that area. Can anyone tell me about this area? It looks to be on or near an Indian reservation. How are the Law enforcement jobs in this portion of the State? Stable, lots of turn over etc. I do not require many immenities as we are country folk who understand and prefer rural living. I am an avid houndsman and need a place to keep several purebred hounds. This brings up another question. How is the racoon hunting in this area? I do not require a high wage as we have survived on public service salary forever LOL. Any insight or help would be very much appreciated. I am planning on a trip through this country next week. Thanks.

Hi!

You asked about law enforcement jobs in North Eastern Montana. Poplar is on the Indian reservation and has MANY problems including drugs, stabbings, fighting etc. etc. I personally would not recommend anyone to take a job there especially if you are not of Indian heritage. We have some law enforcement openings here in Glasgow that you might be interested in --- Valey County Sheriff and Glasgow City Police both have openings. Turnover in those jobs is less becuase of the crime and job conditions and more becuase we get the right out to school (since we are so close to Dawson Community College) younger officers. This is a very rural area and if you have been in this area you understand that. Hunting is a big deal here but I don't know about racoons. I don't think you would have any problems finding a place to live outside of town to accomodate you dogs.
If you would like contact names for the jobs I mentioned, please send me a private email. Would be glad to assist you with your relocating questions.

Poplar is an ok little town to live in... we do need police officers.. i am a resident of poplar and there are alot of things that others have said about poplar-stabbings, murders.etc. everyday here is sometimes peaceful. mostly there are fights and i hear and the crime is a bit high but i don't worry about it. poplar is ok. just come see it for yourself.

Back in the early 1970s I lived down by "houndsman row" in Bozeman. There was enough coon hunting in the bottomlands around Bzn to support 5 or 6 hound enthusiasts that I knew of. I don't know if they ever did any UKC hunts or not. Anyway I'd think the coon hunting might be even better in the lower-altitude areas with more small game, like the areas where you're considering.

Besides, we need all the dog men we can get. It's a dying breed, not to mention being killed off by special interests that want to get rid of ALL working animals (and pets). I'm a Retriever person myself.

BTW you wouldn't think so, but there are enough coons and possums in the hilly parts of Los Angeles to actually be a nuisance -- if you live in Granada Hills and have an unlocked doggie-door, you'll frequently have a night visitor that hounds would find mighty fine.

Default Dateline NBC

Did anyone see Dateline NBC the other night? It was about a girl's murder in Poplar, Montana. Please see my post under the "What's Poplar, Montana Like?" thread and let me know what you think. If you didn't see it, you can probably catch it online.
