We found the opposite to be true. Montana wouldn't give us the time of day when my husband was applying for jobs there. We even stopped in Helena and we're taking to a nice, local couple. They were quite friendly until we mentioned we were from California, then the conversation changed abruptly, they gave us the cold shoulder and walked away.

Wyoming was very welcoming, and my husband had not one, but two job offers here, one of them he accepted.

I guess everyone's experience is different though.

It's been my experience that both states don't like Californians. A lot of people I encountered in Wyoming were flat out paranoid. I'd put money on it I got passed up for many jobs since I wasn't from there. I know of at least one as I was asked three times before the interview even started if I was from Cheyenne.

This is the thinking. It's nationwide. Just as Americans are not wanted around the world.

The belief Americans aren't wanted around the world is [mod cut]. Unless you're in a country like North Korea most places really don't care where you're from.

Differences between Montana and Wyoming?

Well, they built the interstate in Wyoming that goes straight up the mountain both directions and regardless of whether your driving north, south, east, or west, there's always a 40 mile per hour head wind.

Montana just adores it's bridges ... travel anywhere in Montana, day or night, summer or winter, and you'll find a bridge being re-decked, or just flat being re-built along the way.
