i've been living in michigan for 7 months, i've been through early spring, summer, and now almost fall. i've been thinking about moving to montana because i've found a nice house there, close to the canada border. the house is in the mountains, and i'm wondering if there's a lot of bugs in montana compared to michigan? here in michigan (grand rapids), i've seen flies that are reaaally annoying when they buzz by your ear, grasshoppers?? dragon flies, and probably more i can't identify. they're.. livable. quite annoying though. i'm just wondering if montana has less bugs, or more. i'm kinda afraid that there'll be lots more in montana, so.. thoughts?

Yes, Montana has quite a bit less bugs than Michigan.

Depending on where you are, Montana has a lot fewer bugs. We aren't as wet as Michigan, fewer bogs and swamps.

The grasshoppers can be bad in the eastern plains, there are Skeeters near the rivers. The mountains can get deer flies and horseflies, but they only last a couple weeks.

We have short summers so the bug season is pretty short.

The mosquitoes in Montana are not as bad as the ones in Wyoming. Those mosquitos are vicious and leave welts. Montana mosquitoes are tame comparatively. Montana did have more flies, at least in the south near the Beartooth's. And there are grasshoppers near Billings but unless I was a farmer they don't bother me

DEET. The stronger the better, but put it on your clothes not on your skin.

That's why you put it on your clothes, not on your skin.
