just drive down any big highway in Montana, and check forest service information for camping areas.

And trust me you'll find plenty of places to dump money on fireworks, you can't swing a dead skunk around here without hitting a fireworks stand.

It's worth noting that you're not permitted to light fireworks on any federal, state, county, or municipal parks/land. You'll need to find some private land to use for lighting them off. Shouldn't be hard, but be forewarned.

As others said, fireworks stands are everywhere. You'll see them wherever you go.

Roman candles and bottle rockets are illegal in Montana. Most everything else (regular fireworks) are ok.

As a general comment, California now has over 1400 actives fires going (albeit mostly from lightning strikes). It is so bad, the Governor has asked people to voluntarily not purchase fireworks for private use this July 4th. I'm sure many people will ignore this, and personally I am not a proponent of limiting individual decisions. Unfortunately, our fireworks vendors do not have any mechanism to screen out MORONS.

My point: have fun, but please don't burn up Montana.

As jimj said in a different post, if you're far enough away from neighbors, whose around to complain?

Seriously, at Montana State University we were assigned a statistics project. Some of my classmates created a homemade bomb and added paint to it. They took it up into the national forest and detonated it several times and recorded how far the paint splattered under a variety of conditions. They then performed statisical analysis on the various factors causing the explosion (amount of powder, type of powder, etc).

Needless to say, they got in trouble for that one.....
