Thanks to everyone for the info. My husband was offered a job today at St. Pete's. I did some on-line research of the elementary schools and it looks like 75% of them perform above the national average. I really don't like all the testing, but what are you going to do?!? He will be out there soon to look for rental houses while I suffer through the southern summer heat. He is looking so forward to moving back to Montana and I can't wait to begin this next phase of life.

Congrats to your husband! Let me know if you need any help--I've compiled stats for all the schools and I can tell you if the areas you're looking in are good for families or not.

I keep thinking we have a plan down pat and then more questions pop up!
I have been furiously searching on the internet for self storage facilities. We only need something for a month or less to store our furniture in. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

East Helena yards have had a problem from the old Asarco plant.
Beware also of the new subdivisions being built on rock pits filled with rock; it'd be tough to rototill a decent garden.

MTBound,

Do you have a rental home all ready lined up? There are a lot of storage places in the phone book that I could post for you, but you'd probably want something that's convenient for where you're going to be living at.

All Star Storage - 2734 Colonial Dr. 406-449-0550 - Upper Eastside location near St. Pete's

Mini Storage Center - 406-442-0297 - Two locations in town ( West side & near K-Mart)

AAA Self Service Storage - 406-442-1758 - Two locations (Central & off Custer on north side of town)

Hopefully those will be enough to get you started. Let me know if you'd like a couple more numbers if those don't pan out.

Default What is Helena like?

My wife and I visited it last year and immediately reminded us of our current town of Flagstaff, AZ. We liked the town immensely and could easily fall in love with it. What is Helena like in the winter? How cold does it get? We usually get 100+ inches of snow in Flagstaff (last two years have only averaged 50 each), but the variance from night to day can go from -25 to 40 degrees in the same day. Is Helena similar? What are the people like? Friendly? We are looking for a friendly town where there is no hustle and bustle and everyone knows each other. Also, what is real estate like on the outskirts (20-30 miles) of town?

Thanks,
JARED

Helena being the capital is not a town without hustle and bustle and I don't think it would qualify as a small town.
