Trying to help my son, a new college grad, navigate a move to the Monterey-Santa Cruz area. He's taken a job near Moss Landing, starts in a couple of weeks, and is moving cross-country -- so all of this is quite an adventure. With a tight timeframe.

He's been told that the Santa Cruz-Aptos-Capitola area would be a good choice, but he's worried about gas prices (he's thinking of getting an electric car, but I urged him to see if he has a place to plug in first!) With the goal of spending less than $900 on rent with a short-term lease (room share or studio would be fine), he's having trouble locating ANYTHING.

Any advice appreciated! How would that Moss Landing-Santa Cruz commute be? How would Watsonville be? We're looking for affordable but the main reason for moving is to enjoy the California lifestyle at this time in his life. (He has friends and relatives in the Bay Area.)

HELP! We're running out of time!

Ok, I'd recommend looking toward Monterey as well. It's not that much further than Santa Cruz since Moss Landing sits between both towns. Monterey also has way less traffic than SC by comparison. There are a lot of young ppl and things to do near downtown Monterey. I see quite a few on craigslist ~ that range in taking a quick look:

Furnished, Sunny Studio incls. Utils

Apartment 4 Rent

Charming studio

Nicely refreshed w/ recent carpet, paint, etc. & small fenced yard

Large Studio with full kitchen in Marina

I'm not really sure what you mean by not being able to find anything? Maybe it has to do him not having credit established yet or...?
