For those who ask me when the best time to visit Pfeiffer Beach to watch the sun beam shooting through the sea cave this is it! Winter Solstice is the time to go. It also is one of the only purple sand beaches of the world. Tales from the Trail: Pfeiffer Beach, Home of the Purple Sand | Blog Monterey

I thought this is also a good chance to commemorate our 300th post. While we may be a the newest sub forum I do appreciate CD giving it to us.

You should go up to the coast on the Olympic Peninsula. There are rock formations at La Push, and south of there. I think the Oregon coast has some of that, too. Or maybe you've already been there? Coastal rainforest.

Oh wow - when was that shot? Just before sunset?

You've inspired me: will make the trip down in a couple of weeks.

Am in Aptos, and also appreciate the Monterey forum.

Thanks, moon2. Yes, it is best to watch and photograph closer to sunset for the lower angle of the sun beaming through the cave. And since you like the moon here's another recent Big Sur shot of the moon over the water at night.

Thanks, bigsurluvr. I'm no pro, but it's definitely a serious hobby. Glad you enjoy them as Monterey is a great place for artists, photographers and anyone else who loves the outdoors.
