Great place to spend the day. Lots of clean white sand, turquoise water, Point Lobos....and Whales!

Mom and calf swam right by us in the surf yesterday before making their way out of the bay!

Free parking (get there early) in small beach front lot!

Clean restrooms (usually)!

Awesome! That is so cool that you guys got to see that!! We love that beach. Its beautiful year round. Just be careful if the waves are larger. The shorebreak can get a little crazy.

Nice! We were there early yesterday morning. The lagoon is also very nice for bird watching and once the sandbar builds back up, you can get to the trail that leads to the other sections of beach.

Warning: Swimming on this section of the coast can be extremely dangerous because of the strong currents. Carmel River State Beach is considered especially dangerous for swimming, as the steep drop-off from shore can minimize turbulent waves, giving the mistaken impression of a calm sea.

this is an idyllic looking beach but is probably one of the most dangerous beaches in Monterey County for swimmers.
