My wife and I are considering coming to Montreal for a few nights through New Years'. Is this a bad time to visit? If we did, we'd want to be in a fun, historic area that's walkable. Any suggestions?
I was in Montreal for New Year`s 4 times and honestly, I was disappointed. I was expecting a big party and countdowns on Ste-Catherine`s or St-Denis, but there`s none of that. The Plateau is fun and walkable but that`s where I was living and it wasn`t any different to any other night. Maybe try the Old Port? Sorry not to help more.
Montreal parties every night so New Years eve is no big deal, lot of clubs or bars will do the count down routine but no big city production like NYC.Google search for hotels in the Old Montreal area if you want a historic place to stay..
Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like Old Montreal is a good place to start looking for hotels. Are there a lot of good restaurants around that area? I'm very interested in good local cuisine!
There are, but it depends on your budget. If you want more variety you can walk up St-Denis from the Old Port (more or less) where you will find a wider variety of restaurants at a lower cost. Generally I think you'll find most restaurants, and most celebrations (if there are any) in those two areas.
