I just finished my trip to Montreal recently. My visit lasted from May 13-May26. It was an interesting experience to say the least. The majority of people were patient, accomodating, kind, and tolerant to anglophones like me. I did find some hostility among the francophone residents that expressed some rudeness towards me but wasn't really that bad.

As for deciding whether to live there or not, I'm having second thoughts about it because mainly of the very long chilly winters it has and the party scene+vibe is off the roof (in a good and bad way)! It's a little too much for my particular taste. There's certainly nothing wrong with it but it was a bit overwhelming to someone like me who usually prefers to stay low key while relaxing during most weekends. All the glamour and flash doesn't really appeal to me.

I think Montreal was worth a visit but I don't think I'd want to live there as I thought of in the past. I'm definitely going to brush up on my French when I decide to visit Montreal again in the future. Good food in nearly every corner, cool architecture, a high percentage of gorgeous girls & women, plenty of fun activities for all ages, and very safe overall. It's a fun city!

Sounds like you had a fairly good time overall--glad to see someone updating threads from months ago about their experience.

I love Montreal. It's beautiful! I am going back again this summer. One of the best party scenes in Canada, incredible architecture, old European feel, great shopping and fashion, culture galore, incredible food (I tried rabbit and duck and to my surprise I loved it). The chefs are simply unreal. It's a romantic city and if you want to get a Europe feel but stay in North America... go to Montreal. The atmosphere is truly one of a kind. One last point... I love how Quebec is so free spirited and not hung up on religion like a lot of the US. Religion has been ultimately replaced by acceptance, having a good time, pride, and preserving the French culture. An example of this: A gay/lesbian couple can get married, adopt children, have full rights and literally walk down Montreal streets hand in hand completely un-noticed.

If I was a little better in french, I would consider moving there. If I ever brush up on my french, it might be an option for me in the future. You will love Montreal.
