I know this is an old thread now, but for anyone else who might be in this situation, I think as long as you are all around the same age, within 5 or 10 years, it should be fine. If it's more like a 20 or 25 year age difference, they might ask more probing questions. With that kind of an age gap, one of you could be old enough to be the other person's parent. People don't usually hang out with someone 25 years old than they are. I've crossed the border many times with a friend who is 12 years old than I am and never had an issue. They might have assumed we were boyfriend and girlfriend (which we were not).
