With construction of a beautiful new baseball facility virtually assured, the NY-Penn League has announced their intent to locate a franchise in Morgantown. The new facility will also be shared by WVU and probably Fairmont State and Legion and High School teams locally as well.

If I had to make a guess about what team will relocate, it will be the team in Jamestown NY. Jamestown only averaged a little over a 1,000 fans per game last season and given the current division alignments of the NY Penn league, Morgantown can replace Jamestown in that division.

And that team is affiliated with the Pirates, which would make a lot of sense for Morgantown.

That sounds like a good fit for Morgantown. The SALLY is too much of a southern based league and would require a ton of travel.

What do you think Morgantown will be able to average for attendance over the course of a season?

Interesting and I wonder if it is going to be called the NY-Penn League anymore considering that teams are in MD, MA, VT, CT and soon to be in WV? Does Charleston have a team? I remember the old Charleston Charlies back went they were in the International League.

One thing to remember about affliations, they can change every few years, depending on the length of the contract. If the ballpark proposed for Morgantown is going to be as nice as what is being described, any MLB team that has an affliation contract expiring the year the new ballpark opens, could be trying to place their prospects in a nice, new ballpark.

Also, if the WVU ballpark has fieldturf, that could keep some MLB teams away because some of the teams don't want their prospects playing on fieldturf because they want them playing on grass.

That's hard to tell at this point. There are people from here who go to Pirates games on a fairly regular basis, but Washington, PA has a team 45 miles from here that seems to have good attendance and its between here and Pittsburgh. I think it will be well attended. People around here like sports.

Why do you care? Stop trolling to other section!

This is a good news for the community and I could careless about what they called the League. Spring is here except I guess in Syracuse. Let's play ball!

Charleston's team (WV Power) will remain in the class A South Atlantic League.

But it will be nice to have a NY-Penn league presence in the Mountain State

It is and I hope it lasts a long time. I think the Morgantown area would support the team and seem to be loyal fans.
