got an offer from WVU… plan to move into Morgantown. Does anyone give me any idea of specific sections of town I have to avoid because of the community safety and crime , etc?
Any input will be appreciated.

There are some parts of Westover (across the river from WVU) that are undesirable, as would be the Sunnyside area, which is typically student rentals/slums. Most other places are fine, I would say. There aren't too many instances of violent crime in the area, just disruptions due to some of the students at WVU. When are you moving in, and for what position (if you don't mind me asking)?

If you give us an idea as to what you'll be doing, whether you want to rent or buy, and the price range we can be of better help to you. We have very little violent crime here, but on the weekends the youth can get a bit roudy (parties and the like), so if that is an issue you want to avoid the student housing areas.
Location with relation to workplace is important here because we do have traffic issues.

I am thinking to rent a townhouse/condo as I am not familiar with the town yet. I'll work at the campus but I wouldn't mind a little commuting in return of a safe relaxing weekend...
can afford around $ 1500 for rent. Any suggestion(s) for a good real estate that you know of...

I believe if you shop around, you could find nice accomodations in Cheat Lake for that price. It's a great, relaxing place to live with outstanding outdoor amenities and an easy/short commute to Morgantown.

cheat lake wv - Google Search

And this is just a 10 minute drive away...

Coopers Rock State Forest

You might do best to contact a local realtor for more information.

Sunnyside isnt bad. It is full of students being students, which is ideal for most students. It is a pretty tame nowadays anyway. Its reputation is from 10 years ago when it was party central. After 2004 or 2005 they really stopped the block parties and it is just a normal student area.

Morgantown has one place that is kinda bad, the public housing development, something gardens. It is way in the middle of nowhere and isnt that bad, but not the best place to live.

The project in Morgantown is about a mile and a half from anything except the Federal Prison, and old Wonder Bread store, an elementary school, and one of the city parks, off of Greenbag Road. They do have bus service, but in its position there are absolutely no problems coming from it. There are, however, sometimes a problem or two within it though.

CT and Cry will appreciate this........but in Morgantown, there are NO high crime areas or areas to avoid. As much as I rag on Motown sometimes, I will vouch that despite the dilapidated appearance of some of the houses/neighborhoods, Morgantown is an EXTREMELY safe town. I spent 5 years their, living and hanging out in some of the so-called "seediest" areas, and never once experienced any crime. There is not one single area that I would advise someone to avoid because of crime. Now when it comes to perhaps rats or roaches, might be another story, but crime?..........No.
