Recent economic prognostications have the national economy continuing to flounder due to uncertainty about healthcare and international instability, with little improvement anticipated in the Nation's or State's economic condition for the next several years. Morgantown's economy is expected to buck the trend, however, and will remain at around the 4% level during the same time period due to growth in the healthcare sector, increased exports of northern West Virginia coal, and development at West Virginia University, almost all of which is taking place with little positive involvement or funding from state government.
