We need at least 30 cabs in our area to handle demand. It isn't just The University either. With the airport runway being extended there will be even more business flights into and out of Morgantown and the growing number of retail and office establishments located on the fringes of town in Granville, Suncrest, the research organizations and the like place too much demand on the current fleet of 15 cabs that are not maintained in the best condition. Wait times can be as long as an hour during periods of high demand in the current situation.
This new competition will not only improve service, it will put pressure on the current operator to improve his fleet and benefit everyone in the long run. There is overwhelming support for a new cab operator, and the Old Guard can only throw up so many roadblocks before this comes into being.
Yes , but please consider this - the business plan for current cab companies is old and outdated . As soon as Uber gets the ok in WV ( this leg session ) both companies will be out of business . So should we wait until we see the impact of Uber ?

You're being generous. They aren't maintained at all.
Yellow Cab has operated as a monopoly for years. Now, they have no problem paying attorney fees to fight Motown Taxi, when all along they could have been putting that money into upgrading its cars and its service.
The only reason that Yellow Cab doesn't see there being enough business in Morgantown area is because many are deterred from ever using their cab services. I'd love to be able to go out for an evening and use a taxi service here in town, but I'm afraid I'd contract syphilis or second-hand lung cancer from riding in one of those things. You can smell the filth of Yellow Cabs by walking past them. If a reputable company ran a taxi in town, more people would use it -- I'd be mortified to have Yellow Cab pickup a visitor from the airport.

Now that you mention it, one evening I flew into Morgantown Airport and called for a cab. There must have been 9 or 10 of us in the same situation waiting for a cab. After a half hour's wait, a van arrrived to pick up everyone of us. We were squeezed in like sardines, and the driver started his drive all over town to drop off the customers, some students, some businessmen, and a couple old folks including me. Everyone's luggage was stacked on top of each other in the back, and had to be sorted through at each stop. It was rediculous. The second cab service is sorely needed.

I witnessed a person miss their flight the other day because they waited more than an hour for a cab. This was apparently a prospective professor at the university.

This is really something that you should be brought up to the PSC in an effort to back Motown Taxi.

Good luck getting anything positive done through the PSC. Like most state agencies, the decision will likely go to the highest behind the scenes bidder. Money talks in state government.
