It's an interesting question, since Morgantown already has a Marriott, Fairfield (UTC), Courtyard (UTC), Springhill Suites (Sabraton) and Residence Inn (Ruby). That pretty well covers their low-to-mid level flags.
I could be mistaken on the proposal, but I didn't think they'd formally done it yet. I never saw it on the WVU site that lists open RFPs.
After looking at the list of their hotels brands, Im not really sure which it would potentially fall under, there are a couple that would be a reach but I could see it possibly happening. I don't see them putting two standard Mariotts in the same town. However with mariott buying out starwood hotels, I could see them making it a sheraton. The new sheraton hotels are really nice, especially the one in Erie right on the lake.
Ridiculous, WVU owns the land, they should do with it how they please, they specifically want someone to build and manage the hotel in conjunction with the business school as a tie in to the hospitality management and for the company to handle the alumni centers meeting rooms also. These other "developers" who get in a tizzy when they aren't selected need to go away or figure out that burning bridges is not in their best interest. If one of these groups sue, I hope the university squashes them and sues them into oblivion. Im so tired of all of the stupid and frivolous lawsuits in this town to stop development.
Something needs done. Med Center Apts/Fieldcrest Hall have become eyesores. It's gonna drive down the value of the surrounding areas before long. It's even gonna drive down the value of the Erickson Alumni and it's true purpose.
The land is too valuable to be vacant long . I actually think Mon Health and WIC building should be sold and move those agencies elsewhere . The land is worth so much money ; it would be in the county's best interest to sell . Speaking of hotels , a new 6 story Hilton Hotel is being built at the new exit on 79 between Star City and Westover .

I believe it is their extended stay brand (Home 2 Suites), right? I'd bet we will also see the Marriott brand put one of their Towneplace Suites in across the road.
Also from what I understand, WIC is moving once the court house downtown is renovated (not sure if they are moving there or other building that became open because of courthouse renovations). The county health department is staying put as of right now, but from what I have heard it might be a possibility WVU does a land swap with a new building for the health department. Highly doubt WVU does not do whatever it can to get its hands on that property.
Something does need done with both of the old complexes, they look so bad.
I know it's not the WVU Hotel but does anyone have any idea what 2 story brick building they are putting up by Erickson Alumni and Pierpont. No one doesn't even have a hint of what it is really.

It went through the city a couple months back but wasn't talked about. At that point it was/is going to be an office building that WVU Alumni will rent indefinitely apparently. Someone else owns that little piece of land and apparently the owner went to WVU and said he really cant build anything else there and asked them if he would build an office building would WVU be the tenant for the life of the building and at least at that point WVU agreed.
Edit: Took a little digging but I found the application. In it, it says convenience store and some other stores and office space up top. I forget where I read it would be WVU offices, but I guess we will find out what it's actual used for in a couple of months.

Interestingly, the developer of this property was also one of the developers of the new WVU housing right across the road.
That explains that nasty Biafora billboard on Mileground/Easton Hill.
