Cool thread idea! I too am a huge military enthusiast (old Soviet-era stuff especially) Russia has had very interesting submarines in the past, from the Akula class to the monster-sized Typhoons.
Have you fellows ever been onboard a submarine before?
I haven't had the pleasure of being onboard a modern sub, but I have toured a WWII US submarine and all I can say is that I wouldn't want to spend too long in that thing!!
I've been aboard the U-boat at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. VERY cramped inside!
Really? Now I'd love to take a tour inside of a genuine WWII German U-boat!!
Likewise though, the US sub I toured was also VERY cramped and claustrophobic. There were even bunks hanging between the torpedoes!
They used ever inch of space, including the tiny shower, to store food supplies, so you didn't wash at all until the food items in there were used up.
My Father served in the Marines in WWII, Pacific Theatre, and he told us about riding in a sub once when he and about 9 other Marines went in to cut up some barriers and obstacles on a beach they were going to assault the following morning.
