It would catapult the motorcycle to being the most efficient and effective commuting tool in every metropolitan area. People would quickly catch on and start riding as an alternative to sitting in bumper-to-bumper rush hour traffic.
I disagree. It might bump sales up a bit, but nothing huge.
I don't know anyone who rides a motorcycle because it's efficient.
I have never owned a motorcycle. I live in an upper middle class area and I do not know a single neighbor with a motorcycle. New Range Rovers/Audis/SL Benz.....yep, bikes NO.
I like the look/sound of a Harley Softail Deluxe but don't really have the need for it and don't want to dump 20K on something that will basically collect dust 28 days a month. Texting drivers do scare me.
Love the speed of the sportbikes but common sense quickly takes over and I really don't have a desire to get hurt so I can't see myself ordering a new BMW S1000RR just yet!
This is why I started riding. Have you spoken to a Millennial lately? This is exactly the type of reason that would attract millennials to riding.
If either of you had spoken to a millennial lately you'd know that they aren't that interested in anything with a motor. They're especially uninterested in something with a manual transmission.
How exactly are you using the word 'efficient'? Motorcycles aren't really that efficient for what they are.
If you're using it strictly to mean high mpg then why ride anything bigger than a 50cc moped?

The downturn is self inflicted. Don't bring in the product and customers can't see what is available. Also not pushing two wheels as a commuting option/PUV Personal Utility Vehicle and as a luxury item is also an issue. Make lane splitting and free parking downtown in all cities and states and you will sell more two/three wheeled vehicles. We have the best marketing in the US, but they can't or won't sell us world class motorcycles at an affordable price.
I am right there with you. No 450 street legal enduro bikes from the big 4 , so KTM, Husky, and Beta own the market and sell a ton of bikes here in the USA. The big 4 either have dropped or not updated their dual sport bikes in 20 years or more.
The USA must not be much of a market, take a look what id offered over seas.

The market is one thing-our government makes manufacturers jump through more hoops and deal with more crap than other nations. I'd expect that is why so many really interesting bikes don't make it here.
...........On a somewhat related note.. Think about all the vintage bikes (and classic cars) that'll go on the market when the boomers pass away and their kids have no interest in a '66 Bonneville (or a '66 mustang) .. It'll be a buyers market like no other.
Great observation, that.
Also, on a somewhat related note..... Musical instrument stores across the country are tanking because it's too hard to learn to play. Garage bands are a thing of the past.
