Johnny Knoxville produced this crazy documentary I just saw on Showtime. Oh man was this a wild woolly ride! Has anyone else checked this out? It's like riding shotgun with the Hatfields and Mc Coys! http://wildandwonderfulwhites.com/
We caught the movie while flipping channels - my teen-age son was appalled. Well, I was too ~ and sad for the children of that family.
He thinks that Bridgeport/Morgantown area should just rename itself "North Virginia" or something to totally separate itself from the southern part of the state.
How sad is that? I guess he really did NOT like that movie!
^^^^The trick is to click subtitles on your tv or you'll be befuddled!
It was a fascinating slice of dysfunctional life. It reminds me of goofy rap and rock videos with people doing stupid things for shock value and cred. Except these folks were real!
I learned about this documentary from a Fred Reed essay. Fred is a professional writer, often politically incorrect, who was born and raised in a coal camp in a holler in West Virginia. He knows what he is talking about:
"White Trash and the American Experience
A People Seldom Seen."
The definition of a West Virginia virgin is a girl that can still outrun her brothers.
