I thought it did give the original a run for its money, although it was a remake Rob Zombie made it his own going his own direction so if your not a fan of his films you probably wont like this version but I liked it how we the audience got to know more about Micheal Myers as a kid and his background I also liked that the we never sees his face when he is older.
For me this is by far the best Halloween since the Original and my hat goes off to Rob Zombie for pulling this off with so much negativity about it before it was even realeased.
That's too bad...I loved the original and was actually hoping this version would give it a run for its money...guess not...
I remember loving the original when I was a kid. But I watched it again a month or so ago and wasn't as impressed. For me anyway, it hasn't aged as well. The first half of the movie is GREAT. Fantastic build-up of suspense and a growing sense of dread. Some great camera shots. But then when Michael actually goes on his rampage... it turns a tad silly.
Zombie's remake has similar problems.
Remember the first 5 minutes of the original? That runs about 40 minutes in the new version, and it is by far the best part of the movie. The young actor playing 10-year old Michael is fantastic. The actress playing his mom (Rob Zombie's wife) is also quite good.
But again, once Halloween night hits and Michael goes on a rampage...it just gets kind of silly. I was hoping to be scared. I wasn't. The few real "surprise" scenes you've probably already had spoiled for you in the previews. The violence is absolutely unrelentingly brutal -- but it's never scary. I really liked the actress playing Laurie, but the script just wasn't there for her. She starts out great. You really like her. Then she just spends the last half hour running around screaming.
It isn't a bad movie by any stretch. I'm glad I saw it. But it wasn't nearly as good as I'd hoped it would be. I was expecting more and ended up disappointed. Maybe if you keep your expectations low, you'll be pleasantly surprised.
I don't know... I always seemed to like Halloween II as a kid when he was running around the hospital. I watched that recently and realized that it wasn't that great either. I've heard good things about the new Halloween movie and am debating going to see it tomorrow night.
I thought it was pretty good. A bit excessively violent and a bit too much nudity (i lost count on how many boobs I saw )
