Finally, a movie is coming out (early July) that I am interested in.
"Boyhood" is a movie by Richard Linklater (Dazed and Confused, School of Rock, etc), that he shot over the course of 12 years.
Using the same actors.
The first scenes were shot in 2002 (in Austin, Texas), with the movie being about Mason, then a five-year old boy.
Linklater then assembled his crew once a year thereafter and shot more scenes. Over the course of the 12 years we see Mason (again, the same child actor) literally grow up on screen. The other actors include Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette as Mason's parents (again, they went back to Austin every year for a few days to shoot new scenes). Well received at Cannes.
That looks really interesting, and FINALLY someone in film literally takes the time to put out something unique. It reminds me of this British documentary that followed the lives of 7-year-old children -- every seven years up until the present:
I think he is an underrated director, although some of his movies do suck. But I like his Before series and the last one, Before Midnight, was a really truthful examination of men and women in relationships.
I can't wait for this to come out on dvd, I love the idea of this. It's fascinating.....I have to laugh though because I was thinking 'would the actors & the director forget they were making a movie since it's taking 12 years to do it?' You know, getting together once a year, filming & then saying sayonara! Anyway, very interested in seeing it.
