I've actually never seen one, and never thought it would be worthwhile. Seems like a scheme to halve the number of movies in every theater.
It only happens with action or disaster movies. Since the return of 3-D to theaters there have been no super silly intentional "over there" 3-D movies.
I've never paid to see movies in 3D. Don't see the point. Movies are perfectly good in 2D.
I can watch movies on my phone but it's a more enjoyable experience to watch them on the bigger screen of my tablet.
Ditto my PC monitor,
Ditto my plasma TV,
Ditto going our to an old theater with a small screen,
Ditto going to a new theater with a larger screen, comfortable chairs, better sound system,
Ditto going to an IMAX size theater.
Your Mileage May Vary!
To say one method isn't worth the money is imposing your own standards and preferences on us all. It's like saying that since you don't like apple pie, no one will/should.
Instead of saying simply "3D isn't worth it".
Tell us why, so those who have not yet tried it can make their own judgements about what is worth the extra expense.
I have to agree that it is great for cartoons. I saw Kung Fu Panda III in 3D and it was the first time that I felt it was being used to even close to the same fun and amazing degree as it was used to make something like Captain EO.
I cannot remember which live action film I saw that did an equally good job. Maybe the newest Avengers? I like when 3D makes the screen come out at me instead of making the movie look as if it extends into the screen. Do you know what I mean? I don't want it to look as if I could walk into the room and have a seat. I want things to fly at my head or feel as if it has invaded my space.

I do like the flying stuff in movies, I love the depth 3D adds to animation but I don't need it for every movie. When I saw Pirates 4 and the Thor marathon when Thor The Dark World came out, it wasn't that impressive. That said I am not sure if 3D is worth the up charge for it.
I might spring for 3-D for next week's big opening movie, Interstellar
That does look good but I may just wait for the DVD release to rent from the library.
