I saw the preview for the Eddie movie, didn't go on my must-watch list. I did notice the original "film" was on ppv and watched it, it was the best of the worst in the Blacksploitation genre.
I watched Dolemite is my name after that and thoroughly enjoyed it.
We watched it recently, wasn't overly impressed, more of just a "meh" I wouldn't bother to watch it again. I do like Eddy Murphy and all, but I don't know.
Murphy's film was sort of a tribute to the "Blaxploitation" era. I suppose you either enjoy that, or you dont.
Quentin Tarantino made "Jackie Brown" as a tribute to "Foxy Brown" from 1974.

If I hadn't watched the original Dolemite first I wouldn't have enjoyed it nearly as much.

That's what we did; first saw the 1975 movie two weeks ago and last night the 2019 Eddie Murphy version which was funny. Still LMAO at the "sex" scene where one person rocks the bed, another person has the items on the wall bouncing around, the chandelier falls and then the ceiling collapses.
