Does anyone know if Cleavon Little's laugh in this scene was unscripted? It seems so genuine and not part of the script. I've never been able to find out an answer to this question. I tweeted Mel Brooks so I hope he answers me.

Seems like it wasn't part of the script but glad Mel left it in even if it wasn't.

I just watched this movie last week after hearing stuff for years about how hilarious it was. I went in with low expectations because I thought it would be mostly lowbrow humor, but I ended up really enjoying it!!

I'm surprised at some of the people in the past who have told me it was a good movie though; looking back, they weren't really smart enough to appreciate all the nuances (although of course most of them probably just remembered the campfire/bean scene )

An artist will include errors in the movie if they work. Here you have a possible laugh while in Star Wars you see a Stormtrooper walk into a door and that was kept in (mainly because they are inept.)

Blazing Saddles has to be one of the top 10 movies of all time for me. I love movies that poke fun at racism.. Always thought that's the best way to combat it.. Make fun of it. Has to be done right, or it'll totally blow up in your face. But the two best examples of it are Blazing Saddles and the South Park episode "With Apologies to Jesse Jackson"

Blazing Saddles could not be made today. The oh so serious crowd would totally miss the satire and the fact that the black character was smarter than the majority of the white ones.

Agree, the satire wouldn't be understood by some of the puritanical PC crowd. Progress isn't linear - it's often one step forward ...

It wouldn't just be the so-called PC crowd. The type of idiots who thought Stephen Colbert was serious and not making fun of them, or who don't realize that shows featuring redneck morons are making fun of how disgusting redneck racists are, would think that the movie was okaying their beliefs.
