Starting in the 80s mostly I have seen some very good movies from the 80s and before fall victim to GREED to put it bluntly and the music in them was changed to crap instead of what was there..... Ill list a couple....
Others feel free to add!
1) Somewhere in time (1980)
Beautiful movie... MUSIC CHANGED SOMETIME IN THE 80s! (Garbage music replaced the music that made the movie GOOD)
2) Where the buffalo roam (1980)
BEAUTIFUL MOVIE - MUSIC CHANGED SOMETIME IN THE 80s! (Garbage music replaced the music that made the movie GOOD)
Soundtracks are part of the film, and I am not even going to go into how many films are made BETTER by a well thought out soundtrack. I commend those like ME who want to see the movie AS INTENDED (With its original music)
Ya take the music out and ya mine as well take out the actors also!!!!!
Its sad people who "dont care about the music" in a movie, its truly very sad......
Songs or instrumental score? Sometimes they can't get the rights back to certain songs for the home video release and things get changed. The remix of "Kashmir" was removed from the first video release of Bad Lieutenant.
Mask, the one with Cher and Eric Stolz. What a mess, the squabbling over which music. I've seen both versions, and when I watched the alternate version I was like, 'WTF?'
The Legend of Billy Jean with Helen Slater and Christian Slater. Last I checked, the movie wasn't available to purchase because of the music licensing issues with Pat Benetar.

The Legend of Billie Jean is a great '80's flick. It is available on both DVD & Blu-ray:

I noticed that the DVD just became available in 2014 - sounds like they resolved the music licensing issue. Are Pat Benetar's songs still on the movie's soundtrack? If they've maintained its integrity then I'll pick up a copy, I've been talking to my kids for years about this movie.
I guess the real Rocky Dennis loved Bruce Springsteen, so I'm okay with this change. Love love love that movie.
I watched the movie with the Seger soundtrack first, and then decades later with the Springsteen soundtrack. They actually changed some of the content of the movie (cut a scene) to reflect the changed track. When Rocky is telling his friend all the places he wants to visit he specifies Kathmandu (pegged it on his map in his bedroom) and that tied back to the Seger song. Hard to explain, but the energy of the movie was deflated by the Springsteen soundtrack. Too bad his record company was such a PITA.

I believe the film does have the original soundtrack. I agree, this is great movie - and one I've wanted to see for years.
I finally watched TLOBJ in 2012 (for the first time), on the 2011 DVD - the film was first released in 2011 in a limited release DVD, and then again in 2014 (on DVD & Blu-ray) - the bottom of this wikipedia article has the DVD home video release history:
