Trust me, folks. I know a lot of people aren't fans of reboots, but Villenueve will do this right.

I'll go on record right now, Bladerunner 2049 will be a top 5 movie of 2017.
Exactly, I feel Denis Villenueve can do no wrong at this point, flawless filmography so far

It may be a decent movie, but it won't be "Bladerunner." It will be a shoot-em-up, not a lot different from some of the Terminator movies.

I like the original theatrical release of Blade Runner with Rick Deckard's narration. Really made BR feel like a futuristic take on an old fashioned detective movie. I'm not seeing any of that in the trailers for Blade Runner 2049 and it worries me.

Actually, I liked it too, inasmuch as the movie was filmed in the noir style of those old movies.

I didn't mind the concept of the narration. It was very much in the film noir hardboiled detective tradition.

That said, some of the narration in the original theatrical release was REALLY bad. Like the opening line:

"Sushi. Cold fish. Yeah, that's what my wife called me."

Being really bad is also in the film noir hardboiled detective tradition. These are hard-boiled detectives, not poets.

I preferred Robert Heinlein's "...as conspicuous as a bug on a plate."

This short drained some of the excitement of 2049 out of me. I'll probably still see it in the theater but I'm keeping my expectations in check so I'm not disappointed like I was with Prometheus.

Guess we've got two threads going. So I'll post the info here, too:
New short prequel. the article has the film, but it also has spoilers!
