The only thing about this whole new movie-verse that makes me nervous: The next movie is GODZILLA VS. KONG. I'm trying to keep an open mind and hope the writer and director will come through, but that whole concept seems stupid from the get-go to me. One shot of radioactive fire-breath, and an ape is dead, no matter how big he is. Maybe it will be a 90 second movie? More of a sequel to BAMBI VS. GODZILLA.
I don't get it, either. And how can they possibly top GKotM with GvK? I even stopped working to watch the trailer again and slobber over some of those shots.
My guess is that other beasties, kaiji and denizens of Skull Island, will appear. The titular fight will be in the third act. That's the only way to do it.
And HOW will Kong still not be served up flame-grilled with fried banana peels on the side? Not to mention our new Godzilla is by far the LARGEST of them all? Will he merely roar-laugh and let Kong jump up and down on his tail while he naps?
GvK is a largely nostalgia-fueled venture.

Not necessarily. When you've dust plumes, debris-rain and ashen clouds everywhere, you can't expect "sunny, with a light chance of drizzle." There are beasts battling for supremacy over our mudball. It's just not how it works.

They actually set that up in KONG: SKULL ISLAND. There is a line of dialogue about halfway through the movie that Kong is still growing. And that was set 40 years ago. So I'm sure they'll have him Godzilla sized.

Yup. I don't see how a giant ape is going to stand a chance against a giant nuclear lizard. I wish they'd rethink that whole concept. But part of my problem may be that I have seen the old Kong vs. Godzilla movie, and I remember how horrible it was.
The concept is a gimmick, not a story. Those seldom turn out well.
I wasn't a huge fan of Godzilla 2014. But this new trailer gives me hope. The monster action looks pretty amazing. I just hope they give Ken Watanabe more to do in this one.
