Cusack is a great actor (watch LOVE & MERCY), but I will be the first to admit he has said yes to a lot of parts to which he should have said no. Same with Richard Gere actually.
Always liked Cusack. He can drama or comedy roles. Thought he was grea in Hot Tub Time Machine. He has been in a few flops, but think a solid role will give him a boost like it did Michael Keaton.
Sorry, but seems to me that they're nothing alike. Richard Gere is likelier to portray a character with some menace, a character lacking in much inner life; John Cusack is likelier to portray a character who's much sunnier, who goes farther on youth charm.

In what why do you see them as similar?
All the "moves". Not saying I'm right but it just dawned on me...I feel like they are the same person. Like if one stepped into a role the other had already done I would expect them to play it so similar.
Have you ever heard a band and were like, oh this is so and so light (as an insult)?

Exactly my thoughts. Cusack has been miscast more than once. He's got an Everyman quality rather like Jimmy Stewart or Tom Hanks. Do you enjoy watching any of them play the heavy? I don't.
Cusack a "second-rate Gere"...LOL. Gere's heyday ran out, when, back in the '80s?
