I am 50-50 on whitewashing. My core value says that writers can write what they like, directors can direct what they like, producers can produce what they like, and actors can act what they like. If you don't like it, don't watch it.
That being said, I personally find most whitewashed movies deplorable. THE LAST SAMURAI was honestly one of the most offensive pieces of trash, to both Japanese and Americans, that I have ever seen. I have no words for how offended I was by THE IMPOSSIBLE, that movie about that Tsunami that ignored the suffering of millions of Asians and focused on a British family on vacation. Angelina Jolie's blackface role in A MIGHTY HEART was just comical.
BLOOD DIAMOND, GREAT WALL, and on and on. They are univerally trash.
