But I don't know if his acting instead of his body building would have sustained that career
He could always fall back on his numerous chemical engineering degrees. I had always hoped that Dolph and Kevin Grevioux would have made a guest star appearance as themselves in Big Bang Theory. These two monsters of muscle don’t look nor sound like they have such high science degrees.

Its just been diffused into action/adventure (or basically any flick with a fight scene) genres.

Who but Patrick Swayze could wear a short-sleeved mockneck, baggy pants, and a mullet, and still be completely badass?

Martial arts have evolved from the flashy showboating moves to more realistic to the point kind of moves. Similar to what militaries around the world try to base their H2H programs on.

Taken series with Liam Neeson, The Raid (and sequel), Daredevil (Netflix), Punisher (Netflix), and then Warrior (Cinemax), Extraction (Chris Hemsworth), The Old Guard (Charlize Theron), and Atomic Blonde (Charlize Theron, and The Gray Man (Ryan Gosling) all feature H2H but its more reality based or appears as such.

Whether or not it actually works in real life is another story. All those movies listed can be considered MA movies as they feature lots of H2H but mixed in with gun play.

Its not just karate films in U.S. that are gone but the cultural scene as well. Less martial arts studios to learn the skills, less television and no major martial art stars like Jet Li, Jackie Chan, Van Damme retired for years. Not in America anyway. Public libraries usually have few of DVDs. I am a big fan of those movies, even bad ones are better than none. I really think it peaked and appears dead...to the new generation of movie goers. Sophistcated critics look down on them...but what do they know?
