Yes, thank you. A pit bull and the name 'Spanky' is all I could pull from my memory.

Fraternal organizations sure sounds like a "guy thing" to me.

He means physical comedy, as in 3 Stooges, Jim Carrey faces, dumb redneck types like Dumb and Dumber and pratfall comedy like old Jerry Lewis movies. Lucille Ball I think fit that physical mode somewhat but still different than that. I don’t think people really want to see women hitting each other over the head.

Oh thanks. I didn't read it right. I thought it was about women acting dumb in movies...... My excuse is it's the middle of the night here in England!!

Physical comedy? I agree, I think only Lucille Ball did that kind of thing. I never got Jerry Lewis at all. Jim Carrey made me laugh in a few movies. Lucy was very good at physical comedy, but only on tv, not in her movies.

We've had other comediennes engage in physical comedy over time with great results.

Melissa McCarthy (of course)

Debra Messing and Megan Mullally:

Kristen Wiig:

And of course, the incomparable Gilda Radner.

Yes she was awesome! My favorite skit she did was Todd and Lisa.

...there may be physiological roots for the difference in our senses of humor. She referred me to a study published in Nature in which neuroscientists studied empathy responses using magnetic resonance imaging. The results suggested that men and women are wired differently
in this key area: Women respond to seeing someone they dislike suffering pain with empathy, and men with pleasure at another’s misfortune. In other words, women empathize with the
victim of violence (hence the wincing every time Moe pulls Curly’s hair out by the roots), while men experience schadenfreude when folks get their comeuppance. Men enjoy watching
someone get whacked — as long as it isn’t them. Maybe it’s because every time someone else gets picked on, they get a reprieve. It may simply be that women see pain where men see pratfalls."
That has even been noted in newborn nurseries. Girl babies are more likely to cry sympathetically to other babies crying, while boy babies ignore it.
