Old Boy (gruesome but fascinating!) is, as you say, is the first of a trilogy by Korean director Chan Wook Park. The other two in the series are Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance and Lady Vengeance. Like you, I thought Old Boy had the biggest impact. Maybe it's because I saw it first.

For anyone into foreign movies that make you think and look for a deeper meaning - try the movie Kontroll. It was filmed entirely in the Budapest subway. Cool flick and won some awards too.

i'm sure my answer is a common one for many, but I'd go with "Run Lola Run" and "Pan's Labrynth", both for totally different reasons, but nonetheless

I have recently watched a German movie called "Delicious Martha" (delicious refers mainly to food as she is a cook).
I really enjoyed it maybe because I did not know anything about it and was caught by surprise.

I forgot to mention:

"Run Lola Run"
"Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels"
"Billy (something)" - the English movie about a boy who wanted to be a dancer. His dad and brother worked in the coal mines and they thought that Billy was taking boxing lessons when he was actually taking dance lessons. Good foriegn movie.

Delicatessen - French, although I watched it dubbed in Russian.
Run Lola Run - already mentioned
East/West - This is a fantastic Russian film that has stayed with me for some years. It struck me as very true to life.

Those are the 3 that immediately came to my mind. Now, I've gotta go check out some of these others that have been mentioned.

Hey Dabeez; Billy ELLIOTT. Thanks for reminding me of this great movie, I saw it about 5 years ago and want to see it again (adds to netflix queue). Some that I've particularly liked over the last few years, although some were "foreign" directed they had an abundance of American actors:

The Long Good Friday

Last Orders

The Limey

The Queen

The Lives of Others

Secrets and Lies

A Very Long Engagement

Cosi

Mostly Martha (incorrectly identified by a previous poster as "tasting" Martha

Downfall

The Madness of King George

In The Name of the Father

The Statement

Rabbit Proof Fence

Dirty Pretty Things, already mentioned but worth mentioning again, and again, I love this movie

Sexy Beast, not about sex! See it.

Stage Beauty, I absolutely love this movie. See it!

Thank you for the correction, I saw it in Spain where the title was "Deliciosa Martha" and I wrongly assumed it was a literal translation of the original title.

I now see that the original title was "Bella Martha" translated into English as "Mostly Martha"
