No, not the previews. Many DVDs include a commentary track by the film director (and sometimes other commentary tracks as well, such as by one or more of the actors, the cinematographer, or in some cases by a noted film critic), short documentaries on the making of the film, for historical films informational pieces about the actual time period the film is set in, etc. When well done, they add an extra dimension to the film.

AMC allowing up to 20 people to rent out a theater for $99

https://www.amctheatres.com/rentals

Concessions are extra.

Honestly.. Unique and good idea. Decent price if you can get 19 of your friends together.

However, is it cheaper for them to just shutter? i mean, to do this, they have to bring at least 2-3 employees in.. Cleaning and all that..

That being said.. It does keep them in mind. People will remember when this is all over.

I'm pretty sure in normal times my local AMC only had 2-3 employees working. 1 person working the ticket booth, one working concessions, and one cleaning. Some days you had to buy your tickets at the concession stand, so there were only 2 employees working.

At that price for 20 people, it's about normal ticket prices. Especially since concessions are extra. It's a guarantee 20 people in a theater, or at least tickets for 20 people. Even pre-COVID there weren't many times I went to the movies and had 20+ people in the theatre with me. And maybe by saying they're renting out the theater, a smaller cut of ticket sales goes to the studios?
