Always hated comic books, super heroes, monsters, sci-fi etc. This movie, however, was an instant classic.

Only movie I ever saw the older brother from Wonder Years in too.

The pacing of the final climax was different as well, with the total stop amid the chaos when they find out she's not a virgin.

It was okay. I don't dislike MONSTER SQUAD, but I admit I was a little disappointed by it. Maybe I went in with expectations too high?

MONSTER SQUAD was not quite funny enough to be a good comedy, and not quite scary enough to be a good horror movie. It seemed to be trying to balance the two, and succeeded at neither.

That's a fine line to walk. To see a movie that gets it right, check out the original FRIGHT NIGHT. It works as both a comedy and a horror movie. So does TREMORS. So does quite a few of the AMAZING STORIES episodes from the mid '80s. HBO's TALES FROM THE CRYPT was unapologetic horror, but it never really took the tongue out of the cheek.

For a good comedy that at least occasionally nods in the direction of horror, you've got THE GOONIES. For a good horror movie that is also really funny, check out AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON (though you'll have to forgive the bad ending).

So yeah, MONSTER SQUAD is not a bad movie. I just don't share the love others seem to.

What about the Saturday morning TV show "Monster Squad" starring Fred Grandy?

Love Tremors.

I don't have any memories of when it first came out. Did trailers lead you to believe it would be something else or was it just not as funny or horror oriented as you thought it would be?

It has a reputation of being an under-appreciated cult classic. It's certainly not a bad movie at all. But I found it mediocre.

Ha. Definitely not! I think it was shooting to be something closer to THE GOONIES or THE LOST BOYS. Not sure how I'd compare them in terms of success. I am one of those aberrations who knows that THE LOST BOYS is actually a crap-awful movie. It's Anne Rice by way of MTV. And I don't mean that as a compliment.

That movie's way overrated, yeah.

Just watched Creepshow the other night, in fact. First time in a few years. I love it. A helluva good time, with a great soundtrack.

Creepshow is classic. Hard truth!

Creepshow 2 is a pretty big step down from its predecessor, but it's still fun.

And I fully recognize I am in the minority when it comes to not liking MONSTER SQUAD. It's not only a cult fave, but it seems to be gaining members in recent years. I'm just not one of them.
