It is an excellent remake. With great thrills, gruesome deaths, and well done practical effects but it subverts our expectations. Sets up false main characters and makes people you wouldn't expect to be victims. It's a great horror package. Shawnee Smith also makes for a beautiful heroine and is a badass at the end and one of the best horror final girls in my opinion. Also, Frank Darabont of Shawshank Redemption and Walking Dead fame helped co write the screenplay. Just my opinion but I feel The Blob deserves to be mentioned alongside The Thing (1982) and The Fly (1986)

also. I am obsessed with the song in the end credits

"Most underrated of all time" might be overstating the case, but I'm not going to argue. It is indeed a great horror flick. As a whole, it actually holds up far better than the original.

I think I remember seeing the remake but don't remember the details. How did they kill it finally, if they did?

Much like the original, they freeze it --- but in a different manner than the original. But there is a teaser ending setting up a sequel that never happened.

I saw it as a kid, but I really don't remember it. Is it streaming anywhere?

For free? Not that I know of. But nearly all the major streaming services have it available to rent online. And it's widely available on DVD. Your local library system might even have a copy.

I haven't seen it in a long time but I do remember it being better than the original....I kind of want to rewatch it now. I love the classic style horror movies. In addition to the fine remakes you mentioned I will also thrown in Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978, original 1956).

Found it. Yes!! (Just hit play)

I don't remember this movie either. I remember being freaked out by the original as a kid, but checking out clips on youtube, this one looks even better lol, I gotta see this.

Definitely. The original 1956 is definitely a great movie, but the 1978 version is a masterpiece of horror.

I don't remember seeing The Blob (1988) but calling it exellent might be an overstatement according to IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes. Here is one review on RT -

Quote:
All we get is sullen Kevin Dillon subbing for Steve and a bigger, nastier lump that bloodies up its victims in stomach-churning close-ups.
No thanks.
