I'm leaning towards Pam Grier as well... but I thought we might be overlooking some 1960's lead, like Ann-Margaret, but she seems to have starred in a TV series.
Whether or not what she said was in context or not, the reaction to it, is a bit over the top.
It's emblematic of the thinking of a lot of people these days, that they're just now making history. The same thing happened among us black people with the Black Panther movie...as though there hadn't been black action heroes before. There was Blade, but we can really start with the original Shaft, which was far more groundbreaking in its time than Black Panther.
I guess in Jennifer Lawrence's safe little bubble - she IS the first, and the past doesn't matter to her own version of it.
